The Sunburst Foundation has identified a need for this program based on the statistics of veterans and seniors who live below poverty level. In Clark County, there reside roughly 300,000 seniors. 8.7%, or 26,000, of those seniors live below the poverty level. In Las Vegas alone there are roughly 85,000 seniors, 7,400 of those seniors living below poverty level. These staggering figures do not fully account for the number of these seniors who may live above poverty level, but who may struggle to afford very necessary services, or who may be indigent.
